Tricks by Andrzej Jakimowski
Actually I was not planning to watch “Tricks, it attracted me quite unconsciously and by accident. In the evening I turned on the TV to watch the broadcast of the Olympic Games in London. When the transmission was over, a movie began. Initially I did not pay any attention to it, but then I caught myself that I peep on it more and more often. When it was after midnight I decided that it’s time to go to bed. After a while I realized that I cannot do that until I don’t find out that is the ending like! :)
The action is set in a sleepy provincial town at the height of summer. The main character is small Stefek, who desperately wants to get to know his father, who left him and his older sister, Elke, before his birth. Every morning, at the local railway station Stefek meets a man who he identifies with his father. The boy believes that with the help of some tricks we will be able to bring his father back home and they’ll establish a full happy family. The small boy’s obsession makes his sister crazy. She has a great grief to his father that he abandoned them.
It’s worth to know that ‘Tricks’ has won many awards at festivals around the world, including the Europe Cinemas Award at the 2007 Venice Film Festival, the Best Film award at the 2007 Polish Film Festival, and was Poland’s entry for this year’s Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
The movie is full of lightness, filled with childhood dreams, desires, and really positive emotions!
